DUBAI – Dubai motorists are advised to plan ahead this Sunday, as major roads will temporarily close for the city’s largest community cycling event – Dubai Ride 2025.
The event, part of the Dubai Fitness Challenge, will see thousands of cyclists take to the streets on November 2, prompting early-morning diversions and temporary changes to Salik toll rates.
Here’s a complete look at the roads affected, timings to note, and suggested alternative routes to help you avoid delays.
Which roads will close?
According to Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the following routes will be closed from 3.30am to 10.30am on Sunday:
- Sheikh Zayed Road between the Trade Centre roundabout and Al Hadiqa Road Bridge
- Lower Financial Centre Road between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road
- One lane of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard
These closures will allow cyclists to safely complete their 4km and 12km ride routes through central Dubai, including iconic landmarks such as the Burj Khalifa and Museum of the Future.
What are the alternative routes?
To ensure a smooth commute, motorists can use the following routes during the closure period:
- Upper Financial Centre Road
- Zabeel Palace Road
- Al Wasl Road
- Al Khail Road
- Al Asayel Street
Drivers are encouraged to leave earlier than usual and follow RTA’s social media updates for live traffic information.
How will Salik fees change?
In line with the event, temporary toll adjustments will apply on Sunday.
- Morning peak (6am–10am): Dh6 per trip
- Evening peak (4pm–8pm): Dh4 per trip
- Off-peak hours (10am–4pm and 8pm–1am): Dh4 per trip
These changes apply across all active toll gates, with normal fees resuming after the stated timings.
How to join Dubai Ride
Those taking part can borrow a free bike from more than 200 Careem Bike stations citywide. Participants can register for the 4km family route or the 12km challenge route, both starting at Sheikh Zayed Road.
As the Dubai Fitness Challenge kicks off, residents can expect a month-long calendar of free workouts and outdoor activities encouraging everyone to get active for 30 minutes a day for 30 days.
